To Sit and Listen

Sometimes it is difficult

to sit

and listen to

someone

when there is a scroll of “to dos” a mile long

trailing behind you following at every turn.

But when you do

sit and listen,

you realize

that it’s the best thing you could have done

because that

someone

chose you

in which to confide

and find comfort from some flurry of pain.

And you feel honoured

to be the one

where

someone

found refuge

from the day’s hurts and disappointments.

And the scroll is forgotten

as you become present

in that moment

of true

friendship.
